Discovery Sprint Checklist

17 questions Steve asks every business before sending a quote. Use this to pressure-test any developer you're considering โ€” including Steve. A real consultant should have asked you most of these before producing a number. If yours hasn't, that's a red flag.
  1. What does a normal day in the business actually look like โ€” minute by minute?
  2. Which step in your current workflow eats the most hours but adds the least value?
  3. Where do you keep customer/job data today โ€” and how many places does it live in?
  4. Who in the company is the bottleneck for getting anything done, and why?
  5. What happens when an employee is sick or on vacation โ€” does work stop?
  6. How do you onboard a new hire today, and how long until they are useful?
  7. What does your monthly close-out / billing / invoicing look like end to end?
  8. Which decisions are made on gut feel today that you wish you had data for?
  9. When was the last time something fell through the cracks, and what was it?
  10. How do customers contact you โ€” and how do those contacts become tracked work?
  11. What software do you pay for today that nobody actually uses?
  12. Where do paper forms or spreadsheets still rule, and why have they survived?
  13. If you could automate one thing tomorrow, what would it be? And the next?
  14. What integrations between systems would save real time but nobody has built?
  15. What kind of reporting do you need that you cannot easily get today?
  16. Who else needs access to the new system โ€” and on what device (phone, tablet, desktop)?
  17. What is your real budget โ€” not the dream number, the one you would actually approve?

Ran your team through these and got uncomfortable answers?

That's usually the moment to book a free 15-minute call. No pitch โ€” just figure out if a Discovery Sprint would clear it up.
